IMG_1421Takoma Park Church Gets “Ready” During Revival Week

A group of young adults and children clad in white shirts made their way down the front stairs. As they filtered into the pews of the choir loft, these members of the DMV Youth Choir gazed out over the array of faces in the congregation. It almost looked and sounded like a typical Sabbath service if not for the lack of sunlight outside the sanctuary windows Sunday evening, April 17.

The Takoma Park Church (TPC) family and visitors opened the Book of Revelation for the first of several nights of the church’s “Ready” revival Bible study series led by Pastor Michael Kelly II. The pastor, who is currently stationed on the West Coast, was once familiar to the area as a student at nearby Washington Adventist University (then Columbia Union College). Kelley returned for the week from his home at Mt. Rubidoux SDA Church in California, and he was eager to study the word with TPC.

His opening message dove straight into Revelation 12. With a sermon entitled “Civil War,” Kelly fought against the fear that often accompanies discussions about Revelation. He pointed out the comfort that comes in knowing Jesus’ plan for the future, along with the importance of a personal relationship with our Savior. Despite all the numbers and symbols throughout the book, Kelly said, “Revelation is about Jesus cleaning up our mess.”

The series had a powerful start and the momentum continued throughout the week as Pastor Kelly took to the pulpit for three more nights before leading both of Saturday’s services. The week’s messages built on the months of study the church has done on Revelation this year. After a rejuvenating week of bible study, music, sermons and fellowship, the TPC family is ready for more deep study of God’s word.
